
Sanskar College of Pharmacy & Research organized Guest Lecture on Pharmacovigilance Programme of India: Redefining Drug Safety on 19th September 2025 during 5th National Pharmacovigilance Week celebration from 17th – 23rd September 2025. Eminent speaker, Dr. R S Ray, Scientific Assistant at National Coordination Centre for Pharmacovigilance Programme of India at Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt of India familiarized and accustomed the students to various different Pharmacovigilance methods and current regulatory requirements of Pharmacovigilance in India. He informed that Medicines safety monitoring is a continuous and dynamic process throughout all the phases of the life cycle of a drug. During the drug development, safety is investigated in different phases like preclinical Toxicity studies, Clinical trial etc. He shared that Pharmacovigilance is the process of identifying and responding to drug safety issues. Pharmacovigilance industry has grown considerably over the past 10 to 15 years. Robust regulatory arrangements provide the foundation for a national method of medicine safety and for public confidence in medicines. The National Regulatory Authority, CDSCO and Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission play the crucial role in the area of Pharmacovigilance and Drug Safety in the country. Most National Pharmacovigilance Centres across the globe depends on the spontaneous and voluntary reporting of adverse drug reactions. A major limiting factor of spontaneous reporting systems is under reporting leading to low reporting rates of Adverse drug reactions (ADR). His talk addressed different factors associated with underreporting of ADR and ways to overcome it. The lecture was very well received by the B.Pharm students. The information and practical insight in his deliberation will be useful for the students throughout their career. The event was very well co-ordinated by Dr Qurratul Ain, Dr Ajeet, Ms. Nidhi Jain and HODs Dr Shabnam Ain and Dr Anuradha Singh with a great support of Director Prof. (Dr.) Babita Kumar. She also conveyed good wishes to all the students for their bright future.
